WhatsApp marketing guide, UAE

WhatsApp marketing for UAE restaurants, from the first opt-in to the repeat booking.

Set up WhatsApp Business, collect opt-ins, plan around Ramadan and the weekend, and count WhatsApp bookings each week.

Restaurant WhatsApp marketing means messaging guests who opted in, through WhatsApp Business, to confirm bookings, share offers and bring them back. In the UAE you run it in English and Arabic, across the seven emirates, and around Ramadan, Eid and the weekend.

Choose the WhatsApp Business app or the Business Platform

WhatsApp gives restaurants two routes, and the right one depends on who answers the chats. The WhatsApp Business app suits a single venue where a manager replies from a phone.

The WhatsApp Business Platform connects through Meta or a business solution provider. It suits groups that need shared inboxes, automated booking messages and a link to a CRM.

Stay on the app if

  • You run one venue and one person answers the number
  • You send offers by hand to a broadcast list
  • You want a catalog, quick replies and labels without extra software

Move to the Platform if

  • Several venues or several staff share one number
  • You want your reservation system to send confirmations and reminders
  • You want each guest's opt-in date and visit history in a CRM

Meta charges for some message types on the Platform, so read its current pricing page before you plan volume. In the app, broadcast lists reach only guests who saved your number, so ask guests to save it when they opt in.

WhatsApp Business profile, catalog and quick replies

A guest who taps your WhatsApp link should be able to book without asking a question. Work through this list before you send a single offer.

  • Business name spelled the same way as on Google Business Profile, Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem and Noon Food
  • Address, map pin, opening hours, website and booking link
  • A catalog of signature dishes and set menus, with the prices you publish elsewhere
  • A greeting message and an away message in English and Arabic
  • Quick replies for the questions your hosts answer each day: parking, kids, dress code, terrace seating and delivery areas
  • Labels such as new guest, regular, birthday month and private dining, so staff can sort chats
  • A short link and a QR code, both of which the app creates in its business tools

Ask a native speaker to write the Arabic replies. Then read each one on a phone, because Arabic runs right to left and a line that fits in English can break in odd places.

Collect opt-ins where guests hand you a number

WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy requires a guest's permission before a business messages them, and it expects you to stop when they ask. Build that permission into steps your team runs at each service.

  • Booking form and confirmation: an unticked box with plain wording, such as "Send me offers and booking updates on WhatsApp"
  • Table QR card: one line that tells guests what they will get, for example weekly specials or event dates
  • Bill folder or receipt: the same QR code, which your server offers when the guest pays
  • Website and Instagram bio: a click-to-WhatsApp button that opens a chat with a prefilled message
  • Meta ads: Instagram and Facebook ads that open a WhatsApp chat, where your host asks the guest to opt in
  • Hotel outlets: a card at the host stand, once you clear it with the hotel's own guest messaging rules

Record four details for each guest: the date, the source, the language they chose and the wording they agreed to. A shared sheet works for one venue, and a CRM works better once you run several.

Do not buy lists, and do not message numbers copied from delivery app orders. Both break the opt-in rule, and guests who never asked can block you. Our guide to five WhatsApp marketing mistakes covers list building and personalised messages.

Booking, thank-you, birthday and win-back messages

Start with the messages guests expect from a restaurant. Add offers once they know your number.

  • Booking confirmation and reminder: the time, the party size, the map pin and a way to change the booking by reply
  • Thank-you after the visit: a short note with a link to your Google review page. Send it to each guest after each visit. Our Google Maps guide sets out Google's review rules.
  • Birthdays and anniversaries: a message in the week before the date, with an offer built for a table of friends or family
  • Win-back: a note to regulars who have gone quiet, timed to your own visit cycle
  • New menu and events: one photo, one line of copy and one way to book
  • Quiet-night offers: for residents in your area, on the nights your reservation book shows empty

Keep each message to one offer and one action. Write it the way your best host would say it at the door, with the guest's name where your system holds it.

Cap the number of messages each guest gets in a month, and hold to it. After each send, check replies, opt-outs and blocks, and cut back when they climb.

On the Platform, any message you start outside an open conversation must use a template that Meta has approved. Submit the English and Arabic versions together, and check your number's quality rating after each campaign.

A send calendar for Ramadan, Eid and National Day

Put the year's key dates on a send calendar at least a month ahead. Then fill each date with the message, the language and the audience.

Ramadan

  • Ramadan follows the moon sighting, so confirm the start date close to the time and keep the first week flexible.
  • Open bookings for group iftar and private dining before the month begins. Companies and families plan these early.
  • Many guests fast through the day, so send iftar offers in the afternoon and suhoor offers after iftar.
  • Match the tone of the month. Lead with hospitality and sharing, and keep discount language light.

Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and National Day

Both Eids and National Day in December are public holidays in the UAE, and families go out together. Send family menus, brunch slots and booking reminders in the week before, with Arabic in the lead.

The weekend and the seasons

  • Check your reservations to find the evening your weekend trade starts, and send the weekend offer the day before.
  • In the hot months, send indoor brunch slots, set menus and delivery links.
  • In the cooler months, invite guests back to the terrace and to outdoor events.

Residents, tourists, hotel outlets and delivery guests

Each group reaches your list a different way and wants different messages from it.

Residents

Residents make up the core of your list, because they can visit week after week. Tag them by area and emirate, so a guest in Sharjah does not get a Dubai Marina brunch offer.

Tourists

A tourist may be in the country for a few days. Invite them to opt in on the first visit, send the menu for a second night, and ask for a review before they leave.

Many visitors message from a home-country number. The same opt-in rules apply, and English is the safe default until they choose a language.

Hotel outlets

A hotel may run its own guest messaging and data rules. Agree with the hotel who owns the opt-in, which number guests see, and what the outlet may send after checkout.

If the outlet serves alcohol, read WhatsApp's Commerce Policy before you list drinks in a catalog. The policy restricts alcohol sales on WhatsApp.

Delivery and cloud kitchens

Orders through Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem and Noon Food stay inside each app, and you may have no way to message the guest afterwards. Put a QR card in the bag that invites guests to order from your WhatsApp catalog.

Read your delivery app agreement first. Check what it says about bag inserts, direct ordering and direct prices before you offer a direct menu.

For a cloud kitchen with no dining room, you collect opt-ins through the bag card and your Instagram and TikTok bios.

Count WhatsApp bookings, covers and opt-outs

Read receipts and replies show that guests saw the message. To judge the channel, track these figures each week:

  • Opt-ins added, split by source
  • Bookings and orders that started in a WhatsApp chat
  • Covers from those bookings
  • Spend on the Platform, ads and offers
  • Cost per guest: that spend divided by the covers
  • Opt-outs and blocks after each send

Ask hosts to tag WhatsApp bookings in your reservation system when they confirm them. Without that tag, you cannot tell a WhatsApp table from a walk-in.

Our own WhatsApp work follows a loop: audit and plan, launch, review each week, then scale what fills tables.

This week's WhatsApp checklist

  • Decide between the Business app and the Business Platform
  • Fill the profile, the greeting and the away message in English and Arabic
  • Add an opt-in box to your booking form and print a table QR card
  • Write three messages: a booking reminder, a post-visit thank-you and a birthday offer
  • Mark Ramadan, both Eids, National Day and your weekend start on a send calendar
  • Set up a WhatsApp label or booking source, so you can count the covers

Questions

WhatsApp Business questions.

Should my restaurant use the WhatsApp Business app or the Business Platform?

Use the app if you run one venue and one person answers chats. Move to the Platform when several staff share a number, or you want automated booking messages and a CRM link.

Can I send offers to guests who have not opted in?

No. WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy requires opt-in permission before a business messages someone. Collect it on your booking form, table QR cards and website, and record when and how each guest agreed.

When should a UAE restaurant send Ramadan messages?

Open iftar and group bookings before the month starts, and confirm dates as the moon sighting nears. During Ramadan, send iftar offers in the afternoon and suhoor offers after iftar.

Do you run WhatsApp marketing in Arabic and English?

Yes. Our team writes and runs WhatsApp messages in English and Arabic for restaurants in all seven emirates, month to month. You and our team agree the scope on a free 30-minute growth call.
